HOOPS STRIKE THREE TIMES TO REACH THIRD SEMI-FINAL IN AS MANY WEEKS
Catholic United negotiated a long journey to Milton Keynes to comfortably beat Old Bradwell United 0-3 in the quarter finals of the Anagrams Record Trophy.
First half goals from Brad Vaughan, Aaron (Aaron, not Aaron) Baldwin & Tom Hollingsworth eased the defending champions into the last four where they will face either PFC Victoria London or New Salamis.
Buoyed by successive quarter-final away victories & the prospect of an entertaining trip home on the bus, the Hoops set about their business early on - similar to victories against Sporting Hackney & Sandridge Rovers in the previous rounds.
Seeing his older brother unmarked at the edge of the box, Patrick’s corner found Thomas whose low shot hit a cluster of players before falling kindly for Vaughan to prod home.
The visitors doubled their advantage soon after - Jamie Salmon feigned an attempt from 20 yards to delightfully dink a ball through to Thomas Kearney & the captain’s right footed strike was parried into Baldwin’s path to score his 11th in as many appearances.
Hollingsworth made it three on the half hour mark. Surging forward from left back, Mark Baptist’s low strike across goal was saved by Liam Jahn, but once again the Hoops reacted quickest as the striker followed up to net his 27th of the campaign.
Dan Trenkel’s side saw out the tie in a disciplined manner, & although they would have been disappointed not to extend their lead further, it was another last eight victory without conceding.
Next weekend sees the Hoops return to league action, hoping to continue their fine form with fourth position still an achievable target, as Canning Town visit The Len Salmon Stadium.
All the best for the rest of the season, Old Bradwell United.
