Catholic United 3 - 0 Hutton
By Thomas Kearney
RELIEF FOR HOOPS AFTER FIRST WIN
Catholic United finally secured their first league win of the season with a convincing 3-0 victory against Hutton at the Len Salmon Stadium.
Goals from Patrick Kearney, Aaron Baldwin & Louis Robinson sealed the three points at the tenth attempt & avenged October’s 4-2 defeat against the same opposition.
Forced into a couple of changes - Ellis Sands returned to the side in defence while Baldwin made his first start for the club - & despite taking a first half lead, the Hoops knew they had much more to give.
Kearney opened the scoring midway through the half when after some neat play down the left, Max Kent’s cross was not dealt with & the right back’s desire to get into the box was rewarded with a goal from close range.
Following the break, & for all the emphasis on possession, a clearance forward by Mark Baptist subsequently sent Baldwin through & the striker coolly converted between the goalkeeper’s legs to open his account for the Hoops.
Louis Robinson made it three with a powerful header at the near post as Dan Trenkel’s side comfortably saw out the contest & in doing so also kept their first league clean sheet.
Next week Catholic host Sungate - just over four years since their previous meeting in Division Two - at home for the delayed 3rd Round League Cup clash.
All the best for the rest of the season Hutton & thanks to Gareth Nash for the fantastic photos.
